The field is woven (2018) for orchestra // WDR Sinfonieorchester & Manuel Nawri

I was fortunate to make three wonderful studio recordings with some amazing musicians. Thank you to the delicate music-making of EXAUDI and James Weeks; Sarah Dacey, George Barton and the Riot Ensemble; and Juliet Fraser and Quatuor Bozzini.

My thanks also to Björn Gottstein and the team at EvS Musikstiftung; Leonie Reineke who wrote an in-depth essay about the pieces; sound engineers Nick Moroz, Aaron Holloway-Nahum and Stefanos Ioannou as well as producer Martina Seeber at SWR.

I’m also delighted that we are including the live recording of the German premiere of The field is woven by the WDR Sinfonieorchester conducted by Manuel Nawri.

“the star for me was Naomi Pinnock‘s (it looks like someone lived there), a setting – more a solution, really – of a line from Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse. Listening, I could only think: this is what a Woolf setting should sound like…the piece is a gift.“ Tim Rutherford-Johnson

“what lingered most in the memory was… I Am I Am…in which small gestures mean a lot…exquisitely crafted, lasting achievement….” The Guardian

“the closeness to Samuel Beckett is palpable” Neue Musikzeitung

“fascinates through the reduction of its material…By turning to motifs of memory and loss, Naomi Pinnock’s compositions unfold with a subtle intensity that provokes a long-lasting effect.” Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize 2022

“one of the most distinctive younger voices in British music today” The Guardian
